چکیده

We have performed measurements of the spatial distribution of current in various alkali and reactive ion beams over the energy range 5–600 eV using a Faraday cup. Ion beam current densities have been extracted from these measurements using a simple deconvolution procedure. Our results reveal that the beams are Gaussian in shape with a constant width, s , for energies greater than approximately 75 eV and for all ion species investigated. This width is consistent with that determined from the distribution of oxygen on a Cu~001! crystal after an O ion beam deposition, measured using Auger electron spectroscopy. Using the measurement technique outlined in this article, together with the linear relationship between current density and Faraday cup current, it is possible to determine the beam current density using a single current measurement. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0034-6748~00!03309-8#

Experimental Results: Charge-state- and Current- Density D Ecr Ion Source

We have measured the current-density distribution (CDD) in very close vicinity (15mm downstream) of the plasma electrode of our hexapole-geometry electroncyclotron-resonance ion source (ECRIS). For this, we equipped our 3D-movable puller electrode with a customized Faraday Cup (FC) inside. To achieve high spatial resolution we reduced the aperture of the puller electrode to only 0.5mm. Thus, th...

Near-field Ion Current Density Measurements

Faraday probe measurements were taken in the near-field plume of a 6-kW Hall thruster to reduce the negative effects of facility-induced charge-exchange collisions. The results from these measurements were analyzed using a non-standard definition of the current density integration bounds that produced self-consistent beam current and beam divergence values. The measurements indicated a beam div...

Faraday Cup for Low-energy, Low-intensity Beam Measurements at the Usr*

For destructive beam intensity measurements, electrostatic Faraday cups will be incorporated into the Ultra-low energy Storage Ring (USR) and its transfer lines at the Facility for Low-energy Antiproton and Ion Research (FLAIR). This multi-purpose machine will offer both slow and fast extracted beams resulting in a wide range of intensities and varying time structure of the beam. In this contri...

Evaluation of ion collection area in Faraday probes.

A Faraday probe with three concentric rings was designed and fabricated to assess the effect of gap width and collector diameter in a systematic study of the diagnostic ion collection area. The nested Faraday probe consisted of two concentric collector rings and an outer guard ring, which enabled simultaneous current density measurements on the inner and outer collectors. Two versions of the ou...

A Novel Technique for Determination of the Onset of Alkane Induced Asphaltene Precipitation Using Accurate Density Measurements

Onset of asphaltene precipitation is the key parameter in dealing with asphaltene problems because it is the starting point of the asphaltene separation from the solution. In this study, a new technique is provided based on the experimental observations for the determination of the onset of asphaltene precipitation using accurate density measurements of the crude oils upon titration with precip...
